Ohio Barn Conference VIII Oct. 12th 2006
March 30, 31 & April 1st at the Holiday Inn Mansfield, Ohio

Our 2007 theme is "Ohio Barns Built by the Trades". We have some great barns for friday's barn tour, with different styles and many unique features, including the 2006 Barn of the Year for adaptive re-use. Our "greenhouse lunch stop" will provide enthusiasts with a touch of spring! Saturday will feature an array of speakers and demonstrations covering our trades theme, plus we will again have a silent auction and live entertainment that evening. Sunday will begin with breakfast at Malabar Farm, barn tours, and discussions. Our keynote speaker will be past Friends of Ohio Barns president, Rudy Christian talking on "A place for Trades; cultural change in the 21st century"

This is a rain or shine event. A meat entre will be provided, bring your own table service, beverage of choice and your favorite dish to share. Your family is welcome. This will be a great time to talk barns with old friends. Fred and Brenda are heading up the Miami County Barn Survey and are the proud owners of one of the Bicentennial Barns. Members of their survey group will be joining us for the picnic gathering.

Directions: Beginning at the I-70 and I-75 interchange, proceed north on I-75 to exit 68. Taking that exit you will be at SR 571. Turn west (left). Go approximately 7 miles to the Village of West Milton, which will put you at the intersection of SR 48 and SR 571. McDonalds will be where you dead-end. Turn North or right and go straight 1 mile to 4080 SR 48. you will see Fred & Brenda's Bicentennial Barn on the left.

Friends of Ohio Barns Announces the First “Ohio Barn of the Year” Award Feb. 27th 2006
Nominated barns will be judged in two categories, continued AGRICULTURAL USE and ADAPTIVE USE (non-agricultural). Barn owners, barn enthusiasts and local historic organizations are encouraged to nominate their favorite barn or barns for one of the two categories. Nominations should include as much information as available including: photos, current owners name, location of barn, current use of barn, history of barn including age and builder if known, and repairs and information on individuals performing repairs.

Awards will be presented at the 7th annual Ohio Barn Conference held in Trumbull County, April 7 – 9.

News release and photos of both winning nominations will be made available to the news media with a feature story in “The Old Barn Post”.

Deadline for nominations is March 24th 2006

Fire levels historic barn in Xenia Feb. 24th 2006
XENIA | A rundown but historic barn on the Legacy Ministries International campus scheduled for demolition this year was destroyed by a two-alarm fire early Wednesday. There were no injuries in the blaze, which fire officials called accidental. Damage to the barn, along U.S. 35, was estimated at $50,000. A passer-by called 911 just after midnight, Xenia Fire Chief Jeff Leaming said. The barn was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, he said. ...
